I don’t know about you, but when I travel, I never miss a visit to the local supermarket!
Walking down the aisles of the supermarket is always an adventure: we get to experience local life and rub shoulders (often literally) with locals, but most of all, we get to bring a taste of the country weI just visited, with us, back to share with our loved ones!
Things may get a little confusing when you’re surrounded by so many food items. It helps to know what’s available so you know what to look out for. Here are some of our favourites we recommend you pick up during your Singapore supermarket haul!

Given, it’s not entirely the same as digging into a hearty bowl of Laksa at the Hawker Centre but these convenient alternatives from Prima Taste will give you a decent bowl of noodles in merely 7 minutes—and the one from Nissin just takes 3 minutes!
If you want a quick fix that’ll sort your craving out, dive straight into the instant noodles section at the supermarket!
(P.S. Sometimes, you may even stumble upon Tom Yum Seafood and Black Pepper Crab Nissin potato chips at the supermarket! The flavours are two of the most popular ones of the brand!)

If you’ve been to McDonald’s in Singapore, you’ve got to try our chilli sauce! Unlike the ones abroad, our hot sauce has a hint of garlic which makes it a lot more addictive.
We’ll have it by the bucket, please!!

Forget marmalade and jams. When you’re in Singapore, Kaya on toast is one of our breakfast staples! The creamy coconut egg jam with its custard-like texture, is made from coconut milk, pandan leaves (which also explains its green colour) and eggs, before it is sweetened with sugar or honey!
We know that Ya Kun Kaya Toast is a must-try in Singapore, but the supermarket offers a wider variety—there even options with less sugar (healthier options) and even ones with unique flavours such as sea-salt caramel, vanilla pandan and calamansi citrus!

Snacks deserve an article on its own. But here’s one for the kids (or those with a sweet tooth) back home—Khong Guan Biscuits!
They’ve got Sultana, Butter Coconut, Custard Cream and Lemon Puff biscuits and addictive nibbles, Iced Gem biscuits—small biscuits topped with pink, yellow, white or green icing.

We’re pretty sure you’ll be able to get coffee wherever with cafe chains like Starbucks all around the globe. Question is, can they hit that sweet kopi (coffee) or teh tarik (milk tea) spot the way the hawker centre uncle can?

YES, YES and YES. Milo is essentially a chocolate malt drink available worldwide that is especially popular in Singapore.
There are over 60 different Milo recipes globally, but the ones popular in Singapore include the Milo Easy Cool (this recipe dissolves easily in ice water, unlike the original Milo recipe), Milo Gao Siew Dai (a recipe with 50% less sugar and 30% more protein in comparison to the original) and the Australian Recipe (a recipe with a milkier flavour than the original Singapore recipe, that is more malty and chocolatey).
TIP: We highly recommend buying the Milo Easy Cool formula so you can create your own Milo Dinosaur at home!
